Consider Me Hooked!

Here's another little project I finished on the weekend.

Backstory:

My craft room is always a mess. Part of the problem is that the shelves weren't arranged the way I wanted them (it's since been rectified). I had trouble reaching the upper ones so I'd just leave things piled on every horizontal surface. When the surfaces were full, piles started on the floor. And that's where you'd usually find my camera bag. Not a very smart way to look after one of the few valuables I own.

Tom asked me if I wanted him to hang a hook for the bag. What a great idea! But not just any hook. It was going to be in a creative space after all. I had purchased black scroll-y hooks from the dollar store years ago, but never found a place to use them. I gave two of them a coat of primer and spray painted them burgundy. I was hoping to have a coral hook with a yellow-green background to match the bulletin boards, but the local spray paint selection isn't that accommodating.

I asked Tom to cut a modified diamond shape out of 1x8 and router the edges for me. After sanding them I gave them several coats of Bauhaus Gold. They were a little too clean looking so I took some brown stain (Jacobean, I think) and rubbed it along the edges and across the face, wiping off the excess. That gave the yellow a more aged look. We attached the hook to the wood piece, screwed a picture hanging hook into the back of the wood and we were done!

The hook is now hanging just inside the door of my craft room so I can hang up my camera bag as soon as I walk in. That's good - in case the floor is such a mess you can't make it across the room.

One step closer to an organized life!
