Mobile Miter Saw Stand

With our entire basement area under construction, the power tools are needed in every corner. Building a mobile stand for the miter saw was a must. And having it do double-duty as a storage cart was a bonus.

The stand is made from 2x3s for the framework, 3/4" plywood for the sides, and a 1" plywood top. Since it is a utility cart and not for show, we didn't worry too much about the quality of the wood, as long as it wasn't warped.

Here is a very simplified drawing of the 2x3 framework:

The wheels are heavy-duty locking casters that swivel in any direction.

Each end has two large handles to make it easy to move around.

You can also see on the front that we installed an outlet for when you need to plug in another tool - for instance a palm sander to smooth the edges of the board you just cut. It really reduces the need to run extension cords all over the place - or to cut boards in one area and sand them in another.

At the back of the cart is an outlet that runs to the outlet at the front and then out to the wall. The miter saw is plugged in here.

When the cart isn't in use, the power cords can be wrapped up and hung on the back of the cart. Everything is neat and tucked away.

There is so much storage space inside - it's a good thing since we seem to have more tools than places to put them.

Right now it is holding all of our clamps and extra saw blades. Don't forget - you can never have enough clamps! I'll admit, it doesn't usually look this tidy.
